Film-maker Aronofsky to chair Venice fest jury

ROME (Reuters) – Director Darren Aronofsky, who was nominated for an Oscar this year for his dark ballet drama "Black Swan," will chair the jury of the Aug 31-Sep 10 Venice film festival, organizers said on Wednesday.
Aronofsky won the Golden Lion, the top prize in Venice, in 2008 with "The Wrestler," and "Black Swan" opened the festival last year before becoming a commercial and critical hit.
It was nominated for five Academy Awards including best director and best picture, but ended up winning only one -- the best actress statuette for Natalie Portman's performance as an unhinged ballerina.
A statement from the festival's organizers called Aronofsky, 42, a key figure in contemporary cinema.
