Carla Bruni-Sarkozy 'Would Really Like to Talk About' Rumored Pregnancy

France's first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has fueled pregnancy rumors by refusing to categorically deny them. The 43-year-old year old ex-model spoke to six readers of Le Parisian newspaper on Monday who were invited to the Elysee Palace to interview her.

One asked her directly, "Are you expecting a baby?" to which she replied, "If you'll allow me, I'd rather not answer these family questions. But on this subject, in some ways my lips are sealed. Not through arrogance or because I like keeping secrets."

She continued, "My lips are sealed to protect something and to protect all the work (my husband) does. I would really like to talk about it, but then it would take over everything else."

Last week the French magazine Closer announced that Bruni-Sarkozy was pregnant and due in October. If it's true the bebe would be a sure ratings booster for Sarkozy who, is running for re-election next year. Sarkozy has two sons with his first wife and one son with his second wife.

Bruni, who started modeling when she was 19 and had affairs with Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton has -- how shall we say this -- an interesting romantic history.

She lived with publisher Jean-Paul Enthoven but fell in love and embarked on an affair with his son, philosophy professor, Raphael Enthoven. The two had a son Aurelien in 2001. Bruni has denied ever sleeping with the elder Enthoven. Raphael's ex-wife, Justine Levy wrote a roman a clef called, 'Rien de Grave,' (Nothing Serious) which described the Bruni character as a, "leech of a woman with a Terminator smile," and a, "praying mantis."

Bruni broke up with Enthoven in May 2007 and that November met Sarkozy at a dinner party. After a whirlwind romance the two were wed less than three months later.
