Given her talent level, Rachel Weisz really should do more movies. A career marked with ventures into both studio and independent features, she should be doing three to four films a year instead of the one or two she's been doing for the last eight years. Fortunately for movie fans she is starting to kick up the pace and is set to star in Page 8, The Deep Blue Sea and Dream House later this year and she's close to adding another title to her "to do" list.
Coming Soon reports that Weisz is now in talks to play a part in the Sam Raimi-directed Oz: The Great And Powerful. Should she sign on, she joins a cast that already includes James Franco, who will be the titular grifter, and Mila Kunis, who will play Theodora, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Weisz will play Kunis' older sister, Evanora, who is also evil. In the film, Oz, along with Glenda The Good Witch - who has not yet been cast - works to try and get rid of Theodora and Evanora. Based on a script by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire, production is scheduled to begin this summer.
I don't know about you, but I feel like there's going to be a lot of pressure on the actress that plays Glenda. After all, Raimi is going to have to try and make us dislike not only Mila Kunis, but Rachel Weisz as well. That may very well be an impossible task.
