Earlier this month, the impossible seemed to be happening as the long-awaited Sin City 2, the sequel to the 2005 graphic novel adaptation from Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, had landed financing and was waiting for a final script. Now word comes from Heat Vision that the man delivering the new version of the script will be William Monahan, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind The Departed and the upcoming sci-fi flick Horizons from Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski. The writer will work on a recently completed draft from Miller with shooting hopefully starting before the end of the year.

The project has very suddenly come together after word came from Rodriguez at Comic-Con that the sequel may finally have legs. Of course, since those words have been uttered every year since the first film was released, no one really expected this to happen so quickly. As it stands shooting will begin as soon as the script is locked down. However, at this time, it's not clear which surviving characters from the original film will return since no story details have yet been confirmed. Personally, I'm interested in seeing the project finally come together if only because Rodriguez's work following the 2005 adaptation has been mostly disappointing, and this sounds like a great project to get him back on the right track, especially with a writer like Monahan working on the script now.
