It was last November when we heard that Steven Soderbergh would re-team with his Out of Sight and Ocean's 11 franchise star George Clooney for a big screen adaptation of the 60s TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which followed the adventures of American and Russian members of a secret agency called the United Network Command for Law & Enforcement (U.N.C.L.E.). Once believed to be Soderbergh's last job as a director (until he decided to direct Magic Mike with Channing Tatum), the project now finds itself without a lead actor as Deadline reports Clooney is now leaving the project for unknown reasons.
Considering their working relationship, I doubt the duo had a falling out, but there's likely some sort of scheduling issue. As of now, Warner Bros. still intends to begin production in February of 2012 and the hunt is on for a new lead actor for the film. Filling in Clooney's vacated shoes won't be an easy gig, and I'm sure the studio will be trying to find another big name A-list star to step into the role. Maybe someone like Tom Hanks could step into the role? Though he's going to be quite busy over the next couple years, Robert Downey Jr. might fit in the part as well.
