His most recent effort in directing Moneyball may have been edged out by The Lion King's theatrical re-release, but that doesn't mean filmmaker Bennett Miller is a slouch behind the camera. Somehow his direction and a script from Aaron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian made baseball statistics interesting, and that's no easy feat. Now Variety reports Miller is attached to direct Foxcatcher, which been in the works for four years, an adaptation of the true story of John du Pont, heir to the chemical company of the same name, who built a wrestling training facility called Team Foxcatcher on his estate and murdered one of the athletes.
David Schultz was on the receiving end of a shooting from du Pont that resulted in his death, though no motive was ever established. Being a paranoid schizophrenic, Schultz attempted to help the man several times until he was shot in front of his own wife and the head of security on the estate. After the shooting, du Pont apparently locked himself in his mansion for two days and attempted to negotiate with police on the phone. But officials captured him after turning off his power and du Pont went outside to fix his heater. It will be Steve Carell that will play the crazed man himself, likely with a good chance for an Oscar nomination (though he deserves one for Crazy, Stupid, Love), with a script coming from E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman (who wrote Capote for Miller a few years back).
