David Fincher Being Lined Up to Direct Angelina Jolie in 'Cleopatra'

Source: Deadline
Last summer we heard producer Scott Rudin was looking to deliver Cleopatra, a biopic on the famous Egyptian queen based on Stacy Schiff's best-selling biography Cleopatra: A Life. At one time James Cameron was interested in the project before he decided to focus on the two Avatar sequels, but now Rudin is looking to the director of his Best Picture nominated film The Social Network to take over. Deadline reports Sony is in talks with David Fincher to take over the project that still has Angelina Jolie attached to play Cleopatra herself. Apparently this will be the first time the story has been told from the queen's perspective.

So how likely is it that Fincher will end up directing the film? Well, apparently the issue will be Fincher's future slate and scheduling the project around his other commitments. Fincher is currently hard at work on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but there are two more installments in the Millennium Trilogy that he's supposed to direct (Steve Zaillian is already adapting The Girl Who Played with Fire). In addition, Fincher is also supposed to be at the helm of Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo. At this point anything can happen, but the logistics of this deal are currently being figured out with Fincher hopefully directing. This would definitely amp up my interest in the project
