Though we've already gotten a first look at Frank Miller's graphic novel, and Zack Snyder has talked about the plot, we still have heard very many details on Xerxes, the prequel to the stylized epic 300. Well today a big bit of news comes from Vulture as they've heard Warner Bros has offered the movie to Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie. However, keep in mind that this is merely an offer, and Ritchie could just as easily pass on the project. However, this offer from the studio is interesting considering how successful Snyder's take on 300 ended up being. But it sounds like WB might be done drinking Snyder's cinematic Kool-Aid.
Vulture says that Warner Bros isn't too pleased with the way Snyder's crazy genre mash-up Sucker Punch is focus testing with audiences (we've heard similar for awhile). In addition, Snyder's last two films Watchmen and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole didn't exactly deliver the box office numbers the studio was hoping for at all. So for now, Warner Bros. is interested in going with a director who has proven to bring audiences to theaters and deliver a high quality flick (at least with Sherlock Holmes). Not sure if Ritchie can handle this material as well as or better than Snyder did with 300, but we may find out soon. What do you think?
UPDATE: EW has learned that the news of Warner Bros. offering Xerxes to director Guy Ritchie is simply "an erroneous error." The project is in active development, but has not been greenlit yet. As you were.
