We've seen plenty of epic depictions of the end of the world, but a new film will focus more on the relationships that crumble and blossom in the face of our destruction. Even more interesting is the duo involved with the project as Deadline reports Steve Carell and Keira Knightley will star in Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. The story kicks off when humanity learns that a giant asteroid is headed toward Earth and will almost certainly destroy the entire planet. Carell plays a man sitting in the car with his wife when they hear on the radio that the last attempt to destroy the asteroid has failed. Then, his wife just runs out on him.

When all seems lost at the end of the world, the man's neighbor (Knightley) gives him a letter (sent to her house by mistake) from his high school sweetheart who wants to spend their last moments on Earth together. The neighbor offers to drive him to the woman's house and of course they bond and develop a relationship along the way. Sounds kind of dark and touching all at the same time. What has me the most interested in this film is the pairing of Carell and Knightley, two talents I never would have thought to put in a film together. Lorene Scafaria (writer of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist) will be in the director's chair for the first time working from his own script, so I hope he can pull of this intriguing story
