Sci-fi is coming to a peak these next few weeks, with Super 8 hitting this weekend, Green Lantern next and Transformers soon after. Deadline is reporting on Disney signing a deal for an original large-scale science fiction feature film. The deal is with Damon Lindelof, showrunner/writer/producer on "Lost" who hit the feature world writing Cowboys & Aliens with Kurtzman & Orci, as well as Ridley Scott's Prometheus, which is shooting now. The project has a working title of 1952, but that may just be a coverup as Deadline couldn't get any story details. But Lindelof will be producing from the ground up, as well as writing the screenplay.
Apparently this seven-figure sale for the project came out of a series of meetings Lindelof had with Disney's production president Sean Bailey and senior exec Brigham Taylor. This sounds intriguing and I wish we knew something about it. Lindelof is obviously on a roll in Hollywood, moving up to the screenwriting and producing level and this sounds like one of his first major undertakings. I'm a sci-fi fanatic, so bring on any new projects like this, especially "large-scale science fiction feature films." Damn, I love the sound of that, especially coming from Lindelof.
