Donald Sutherland Elected as President Snow in 'The Hunger Games'

We'll see him later this summer in the truly hilarious looking comedy Horrible Bosses, but now veteran actor Donald Sutherland has landed himself a role in one of the most high profile adaptations since Harry Potter or Twilight. Today Lionsgate revealed that Sutherland will play President Snow in the anticipated big screen take on Suzanne Collins' best-selling young adult novel The Hunger Games. Snow has been the autocratic ruler of the nation of Panem and its contained districts for some 25 years and with a snake-like appearance, he's cruel and ruthless in his intimidation and control tactics. Sounds like a fun role.

For some reason, I just picture Sutherland in this role as a different version of his character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that's just me. For those just joining us, the film's story takes place in the ruins of what was once North America, in the nation of Panem which  forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.  Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which Tributes (or teams) must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Jennifer Lawrence starts as hour heroine Katniss Everdeen with Gary Ross directing the film set for release on March 23rd, 2012.
