The writing and directing duo broke out of mumblecore style films like Baghead and The Puffy Chair, Mark and Jay Duplass made a splash with Jonah Hill in the comedy Cyrus. Now the duo may reunite with the star of the 2010 film for a new dramatic thriller called Pitchfork. Named for the music website of the same name and the nature of the story, the film would follow the middle-aged mother of an indie rocker who, after her son is killed in a car accident, seeks vengeance on an online blogger who had peddled snark about her son. However, the story takes a strange turn when she finds out the blogger is just a teen.
24 Frames says Hill could end up playing the teenage blogger while Susan Sarandon is apparently being sought to play the mother. There's even a chance that Mark Duplass, who also has an acting career after starring in the buzzed about indie Humpday, could take a supporting role, but that's just speculation at this point. Either way, right now the brothers are shopping the script around to studios so hopefully it will get picked up sooner than later. The Duplass duo have a unique writing style that is both genuine and heartfelt, and it really brings something fresh to the big screen. And as someone who enjoyed Cyrus, reteaming them with Jonah Hill sounds like a great plan.
