'Thor' Star Chris Hemsworth Up for 'Snow White and the Huntsman'?

Someone has to want this part! The role originally went to Viggo Mortensen before he was pulled out of the production, and then Hugh Jackman was offered the part only to turn it down shortly thereafter. Now a new name has emerged as the frontrunner to take the lead male role in Universal's fairytale story Snow White and the Huntsman. Deadline is reporting that Thor himself, actor Chris Hemsworth, is currently the frontrunner to take the role opposite Kristen Stewart. As the Marvel comic book rakes in cash overseas (it hits US theaters this weekend), Hemsworth will soon have a considerable amount of box office draw.

With the combination of Hemsworth and Stewart on screen, it has the potential to bring in both young males and females to buy a ticket. However, Hemsworth isn't confirmed to actually take the role yet. In addition, the project will still have to contend with the fact that Tarsem Singh's The Brothers Grimm: Snow White will hit theaters first. We'll see how much appeal either of these fairytale adaptations have when their releases get closer in 2012, but for my money, it will be hard to top Hanna as an original take on the fairytale (the Joe Wright film is undoubtedly a contemporary, but subtle take on the classic story). But since that film was a more low key release, I'm sure plenty of people will still line-up for one, if not both, of these alternate takes on the familiar tale.
