As a character actor, he's made some small but memorable appearances in films such as J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and one hell of a cameo alongside Thomas Jane in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Now Clifton Collins Jr. is bringing his talent to another high profile sci-fi project as Variety reports the actor has landed an unknown role Guillermo del Toro's ambitious and promising project Pacific Rim. The actor joins an interesting array of talent that includes Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelpha" funnyman Charlie Day. With the cast growing, it sounds like this project won't get slowed down.

Last we heard about the project, del Toro was gearing up for a 20 week shoot that was slated to start in November and the filmmaker says it will be "the biggest monster movie ever made." The film follows extraterrestrial creatures hellbent on destroying the Earth as humanity must band together to develop highly advanced, and weapon-ready robots to fight face the creatures. Therefore, a creature master like del Toro will have no trouble making good on his seemingly hyperbolic promise. Honestly, I'm just excited to get del Toro behind the camera again, but with a project of this scale and concept, well it's essentially a fanboy's dream come true.
