Amy Adams Wanted for Lead in American Remake of 'The Orphanage'

We haven't heard much about the long gestating remake of the 2007 Spanish horror film The Orphanage since Mothman Prophecies director Mark Pellington stepped up to replace Larry Fessenden who stepped off as director. No new talent has been mentioned for the project since, but now Bloody Disgusting has word on who might step in front of the camera for the lead role. Apparently New Line recently talked with Amy Adams (Enchanted, The Fighter) about playing Laura, a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised, to open a home for disabled children. That's when things take a strange turn.

Laura's son begins playing with the same imaginary friend who haunted her when she was a child at the orphanage. The original film, produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, evoked the suspense, horror and style of the producers early work like The Devil's Backbone, and honestly stands on its own feet as a solid foreign film just fine. If the remake has taken this long to get off the ground, maybe it's time to just pull the plug entirely. Of course, it would be interesting to see Adams take on a project like this, especially after her gritty turn in The Fighter. She may not even end up starring, nothing is confirmed yet, so it might not even matter
