While he’s been busy producing for family (Sofia Coppola‘s “Somewhere”), co-writing with friends (Wes Anderson‘s “Moonrise Kingdom”) and shooting second unit for both (Francis Ford Coppola‘s “Tetro” and Anderson’s “The Darjeeling Limited”), it’s high time Roman Coppola made a new film. His last effort, the deeply underrated “CQ” was ten years ago and so we’re very glad he’s casting up his latest effort, the indie pic, “Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan” (apparently no longer titled “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charlie Swan III,” unless Variety‘s being super terse).
It already could be a major cred comeback vehicle for its star Charlie Sheen, and the cast also includes cousin Jason Schwartzman and “Parks & Recreation” comedienne Aubrey Plaza.
Now one more actor has joined the fray, Katheryn Winnick, who so far has played a lot of major eye-candy roles. She’s played the bodacious female Jake Gyllenhaal lusted after in “Love and Other Drugs,” and played the same kind of smoking hotness in the 2009 Sophie Barthes-directed indie “Cold Souls.” She’s also done a lot of TV work including “Bones,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and “Nikita.” But can she act?
Well, the same might have been said about model Angela Lindvall. She starred in “CQ” and put in decent, albeit, largely wordless, turn in the film as the enigmatic object of the lead’s affection (interesting enough, even though that was a promising start, she’s barely acted since). So maybe Coppola can do the same with Winnick and show off some chops instead of just showing off her beauty.
However, it sounds like a small role. ‘Charlie Swan’ stars Sheen as a successful graphic designer whose fame, money and charm have made him irresistible to women, but his life soon downward spirals into doubt, confusion and reflection when his girlfriend breaks up with him. Winnick will play said ex-gf. Plaza plays Marnie, a producer who works with Swan at his company, Swan Design. Composer Roger Neil (”Beginners,” “Tanner Hall”) will handle the music. No production start has been announced yet, but we assume one will arrive soon.
