His script is behind the promising Steve Carell comedic drama Crazy, Stupid, Love, but writer Dan Fogelman is now poised to make his directorial debut. Back in November we actually learned that Carell would star in Imagine, the story of a sixty-something Bruce Springsteen-type rocker discovers a long-unopened letter addressed to him from John Lennon; after reading it, he’s shocked to learn that he actually fathered a son (Carell). Apparently Carell has since fallen away form the project due to scheduling issues, but now 24 Frames reports Al Pacino is negotiating to take the role of the aged rocker in the story.
Pacino's last role resulted in a poor turn alongside Robert De Niro in Righteous Kill, but the guy is a legend, and it'd be nice to see him return to his former glory. Considering Fogelman (who also wrote Tangled, Cars and My Mother's Curse starring Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand) is a hot commodity in Hollywood right now, this could be a great role for Pacino to amp his career up again (not to mention starring in Gotti: Three Generations).
