In the movie news world we always hear about developing projects, but they don't always get off the ground as easily or as soon as some might think. Now two projects that have been gestating for a little while now seem to be moving forward. First up, Deadline reports that the sequel to the 2010 summer blockbuster Salt is finally making some progress as the film's writer Kurt Wimmer has been hired to pen the sequel with Angelina Jolie reprising the titular role as long as the script comes together all right. Wimmer is working on the script now, so hopefully we'll have a more substantial update later this year. More below!
Second, the last time we heard about the untitled moon project from Doug Liman, the director was looking at some big name talent like Andrew Garfield, Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde and Rachel McAdams to take roles in the film. Now it sounds like the project, going by the title Luna, will likely end up being Liman's next project as Variety reports Paramount is now wrapping up a deal to fast-track the project about renegade scientists who build a spaceship from spare parts to steal an energy source from the moon. DreamWorks was previously developing the project, but it just never came together.
The idea itself comes from a script Liman wrote over ten years ago with his cousin, writer John Hamburg (I Love You, Man). But between 2007 and now the script has gone through many drafts from writers like Mark Bowden (who wrote the Black Hawk Down novel), Dan Mazeau (Bruno), Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes) and most recently Ken Nolan (who wrote the Black Hawk Down screenplay). Now that financing for the film is set with Skydance Pictures and New Regency, you can expect some official casting to come out of the woodwork sooner than later.
