Ed Helms Set to Star in Remake of French Gangster Comedy 'Le Mac'

The actor took a big step forward when he jumped from a supporting player in The Hangover to a leading man in Cedar Rapids. Now "The Office" star Ed Helms is set to lead and produce yet another comedy as Variety reports the actor is working with Ben Stiller's Red Hour films on an American remake of the 2010 French comedy Le Mac. Originally directed by Pascal Bourdinaux, the film follows a mild-mannered banker forced to masquerade as a notorious gangster and pimp. Johnny Rosenthal (who is apparently behind the script for Bad Santa 2) just sold the pitch and the project is now in early stages of development.

This sounds like the perfect role for Helms who easily plays a timid character caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. While I feel like this shares a few too many shades with a film like Mickey Blue Eyes starring Hugh Grant, the involvement of Helms pretty much makes all those worries go away. In addition, considering the involvement of organized crime and pimping, this could prove to be a bit of a darker comedy anyway, and after the decent summer of R-rated comedies like Horrible Bosses, Bridesmaids and Bad Teacher, I'm hoping for yet another with this project
